Top Scenic RV Routes Across the Desert Southwest

Mountain highway winding toward the horizon

The best reason to travel by RV is the part between the destinations. Around Benson, five drives earn their windshield time — and every one of them starts or ends within an easy day of our front gate.

1. The Old Highway Loop (48 miles)

Begin at our gatehouse, roll east on the old highway past cottonwood bosques and roadside farm stands, and circle back through the foothills. Allow three hours with stops — the pullout at mile 22 has the valley's best picnic view.

2. Creek Canyon Run (64 miles)

A gentle climb into sycamore canyon country with three creek crossings (all bridged, all big-rig friendly). Spring brings wildflowers; fall brings cottonwood gold. Fill water before you go — no services past the canyon mouth.

3. Sunset Ridge Byway (35 miles)

Our staff favorite for an evening shakedown drive: leave at 4pm, catch sunset at the ridge overlook, and be back for the story circle. Paved the whole way with wide shoulders.

4. Mission & Vineyards Trail (72 miles)

History and tasting rooms in one loop — an old mission, two vineyards with RV parking, and a farm stand famous for its prickly-pear lemonade.

5. The Long Way to the Stars (90 miles)

A dark-sky detour through ranch country ending at a hilltop pullout where the Milky Way fills the windshield. Time it for a new moon and thank us later.

RVer's tip: Every route above is verified big-rig friendly — but check the fire-danger board at our gatehouse before heading into canyon country in dry months.

Basecamp all five from one pad: our Cottonwood Creek RV Camp puts you minutes from each starting point, with full hookups waiting when you roll home.
